The first step towards eyes that actually feel better.

A dry eye assessment at our clinic is thorough, unhurried, and informative. We'll examine your meibomian glands, assess your tear film, look carefully at your eyelid margins, and give you a clear, honest picture of what's driving your symptoms and what will help.

This isn't a standard eye examination with a few extra questions. A dry eye assessment at our clinic covers:

Symptom review We start by listening. We want to understand your symptoms in detail — what they are, when they're worst, what makes them better or worse, how long you've had them, and what you've already tried.

Meibomian gland imaging Using infrared meibography we photograph your meibomian glands directly — assessing their structure and identifying any atrophy or dysfunction. This gives us objective evidence of gland health that a standard examination simply can't provide.

Tear film analysis We assess the stability and composition of your tear film — measuring how quickly it breaks up and identifying whether evaporation, insufficient production, or both are contributing to your symptoms.

Lid margin examination A detailed slit lamp assessment of your eyelid margins — examining for blepharitis, Demodex signs, rosacea-related changes, and the quality of meibomian gland secretion.

Symptom scoring We use validated questionnaires to quantify your symptom burden objectively. This gives us a baseline to measure your progress against as treatment proceeds.

Findings and recommendations We explain what we've found in plain language — what it means, what's driving your symptoms, and what treatment options are available. You leave with a clear understanding of your situation and a recommended plan, with no obligation to proceed with anything on the day.

Who Should Book?

A dry eye assessment is the right starting point if:

  • You've been using drops regularly without lasting relief
  • Your eyes are persistently dry, gritty, burning, or uncomfortable
  • Your eyelids are frequently sore, red, or crusty
  • You've been struggling with contact lens discomfort
  • Your vision fluctuates through the day
  • You have rosacea and your eyes are affected
  • You've developed eye symptoms since starting dupilumab
  • Your eyes haven't felt right since laser eye surgery
  • You've never had a proper dry eye investigation despite ongoing symptoms

You don't need a referral. You can book directly with us.

What Happens Next?

After your assessment we'll give you a written summary of your findings and recommendations. If treatment is appropriate, we'll discuss the options, explain what each involves, and agree a plan that suits your presentation and your circumstances.

If you decide to proceed with treatment, most patients start within a few weeks of their assessment. We'll book your first treatment appointment and explain how to prepare.

If treatment isn't right for you — or if what you need is outside our scope — we'll tell you honestly and point you in the right direction. That might mean a referral to your GP, a dermatologist, or another specialist. We'll always act in your best interest.
